Rock FM is an Independent Local Radio station based in Preston, Lancashire. It is part of the Hits Radio Rock FM network, owned and operated by Bauer Radio Ltd. It broadcasts to North West England.
Rock Radio originated in the 1960s, when teenagers were shunning Top 40 radio in favor of the free-form underground format. Disc jockeys were allowed to play records they liked and chose the music they heard, often with no restrictions. This freedom, combined with the invention of the transistor, gave teens the opportunity to take radio into their bedrooms and beyond.
It was at this point that rock sparked a revolution. At a time when radio was losing its place as the family entertainment centre, it needed something new to attract young listeners.
