On 6-7 July 2023, AmCham Shanghai hosted a Summer Youth Program for the children of members in grades 9-12 to learn about how multinational companies operate in China and the key issues facing foreign companies. Topics included the economic outlook, sustainability, digital marketing and talent development strategies. Participants also had the opportunity to visit industry leaders such as Google, 3M and Collectors. As well as learning about business, the programme provided students with insights into the American university admissions process and training in business writing. Han Lin, Assistant Professor of Finance at NYU Shanghai and Senior Advisor at The Asia Group, then provided an overview of the global and Chinese economic outlook.

Richard Brubaker, Chair of AmCham Shanghai's Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility Committee, followed with his perspective on China's sustainability transformation.

Hongfei Zheng, Group President of Cargill Animal Nutrition, North Asia, shared her experience of thriving in a Fortune 500 multinational in China and how to maintain a growth mindset.

After attending an AmCham HR session on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, students spoke with HR leaders about the corporate perspective on talent recruitment and development.

The second day was dedicated to off-site company visits. In the morning, students had a guided tour of Google's vibrant office atmosphere and then visited the showroom of 3M's R&D centre to see their most advanced and distinctive products.
Back at the AmCham office, Ian Driscoll, Director of Communications at AmCham Shanghai, gave a talk on how business writers think. He took the students through several business articles and showed them what makes good business writing.

Then John Van Fleet, Chairman of the AmCham Shanghai Education Committee, gave a talk on how to choose a target college and how to be more effective in college preparation and application. Mr Van Fleet went into detail about the college ranking system and encouraged students to think about their own academic goals.

The programme concluded with a visit to the Collectors Office, where the students learned about the collecting industry and the grading and authentication of cards and coins.
