BEREA Britton Colquitt Jersey , He’s a dead ringer for the comedian.“I tell people, that’s my father,” Williams joked. The only rock the Browns need him to be is in their secondary. After questions about his toughness and tackling dropped him to the second round of last week’s NFL draft, Williams was selected by Cleveland, which traded up three spots to nab the former LSU standout. The Browns hope that pairing him with Denzel Ward, who made the Pro Bowl last season as a rookie, will stabilize their defensive backfield for years. If first impressions mean anything, Williams made a strong one Friday as the Browns opened their rookie minicamp to the media.Wearing No. 26, Williams was relaxed while answering some pointed questions, and then showed off some of his quickness and athleticism during a workout moved indoors by rain. One of the SEC’s best defensive backs, Williams was so confident he’d be taken in the first round that he went to Nashville for the draft with much of his family, including his fiancee and 2-year-old daughter. But as the night wore on, and without hearing his name announced by Commissioner Roger Goodell, Williams grew uneasy. He began to wonder and worry.Williams asked LSU teammate Devin White to fill him in on draft protocol.“I was like, ‘So everybody at the draft gets drafted, right?'” Williams said. “He was like, ‘No, a couple people didn’t get drafted last year.’ So I’m like, ‘Oh, my God.'”Once the first round ended, Williams knew there was only one thing to do — pack up.“I still had high energy, happy, and told my mom, ‘Let’s just go back home and do it with my other family,'” he said. “I told her ‘Day 2’s coming up.'”Williams was surrounded by 150 guests at a Holiday Inn in Shreveport, Louisiana Tyrod Taylor Jersey , when the call came through from Browns general manager John Dorsey.“It was probably one of the best experiences of my life,” he said.Once Dorsey welcomed Williams, he handed the phone to coach Freddie Kitchens, who had a different message for the cornerback. The team posted the exchange on Twitter.“You’re going to have to tackle a little bit now,” Kitchens said with a laugh. “You know that, right?”Williams understand the criticism on him entering the draft was his tackling, or lack thereof, and that may have caused him to slip. He’s not worried about it being a problem going forward.“I saw John Dorsey said we just need this guy to get somebody down and that’s me. I’m more than just getting somebody down,” he said. “I’m like tackling, hitting, whatever they need me to do, and I’m here to do it.”First, there was another issue to tackle — Williams’ boast that the Browns will play in the Super Bowl this season.Caught up in the excitement moments after being drafted, Williams made the bold prediction three times during a conference call with reporters. When he arrived in Cleveland, Williams met with Kitchens, who warned him to be more careful with his words.“I like the confidence and I like the excitement and the passion that he has,” Kitchens said. “I don’t know how many predictions he will be making. Greedy is a good kid, though. He is a really good kid. He was just full of excitement. I like excitement and I like the enthusiasm, and he has a lot of both.”NOTES: The Browns signed 15 undrafted free agents, including Scottish punter Jamie Gillan. Nicknamed “The Scottish Hammer,” Gillan, who played at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, is expected to compete with Britton Colquitt. … Kitchens had several former Browns players, including Hall of Famer Jim Brown and Bernie Kosar, speak to the rookies Thursday night. “I wanted them to see what it was to be a Cleveland Brown and what it meant to the city,” Kitchens said. “It went really well.” BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Gerald McCoy’s free agency tour started with the Browns. They believe it will end with them, too.Coach Freddie Kitchens said Thursday that he’s optimistic McCoy will sign with Cleveland Baker Mayfield Color Rush Jersey , which appears to be in a three-time battle with Baltimore and Carolina to land the six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle.Recently released by Tampa Bay after nine seasons in a cost-cutting move, McCoy visited the Browns last week and met with the Ravens on Wednesday. He’s reportedly scheduled a meeting with the Panthers as well.Kitchens said the team’s meeting with McCoy “went as good as it could.” The Browns even encouraged him to speak with other teams.“We want Gerald to go out and look at other places because when he makes the commitment here, we want him to be all-in because everybody that’s going to be here is gonna be all-in and that’s what we need to get to where we’re going,” Kitchens said after practice. “So we’re fine with him taking a look at everybody else, all right? Because we’ve told him who we were and if that’s who he wants, he’ll end up here and he knows the direction we’re headed.”The 31-year-old McCoy would like to join a Super Bowl contender, and the Browns have dramatically improved their roster this offseason with the additions of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, edge rusher Olivier Vernon and running back Kareem Hunt.If the Browns sign McCoy, they would be just the fifth team since 1970 to have four current or former Pro Bowlers on their defensive front. McCoy joining forces with Vernon, Richardson and Myles Garrett, who had 13½ sacks last season despite facing constant double-teams, would give offenses a lot to worry about.Add in tackle Larry Ogunjobi, who has shown major potential in just two seasons, and the Browns are even more dangerous.McCoy was released on May 20 by the Buccaneers, who didn’t want to pay him $13 million next season. The Browns already have big money invested into their defensive line (Richardson got a three-year, $37 million deal with $21 million guaranteed) and they’ll have to address Garrett’s future at some point.Finances don’t seem to be a concern.“We’re trying to sign him,” Kitchens said.McCoy has 54½ sacks in 123 NFL games, but Kitchens likes his other intangibles.“He’s been in the league a long time. He’s played 10 years. He’s been to the fire. He would offer all those things,” Kitchens said. “We’re still young up front. In a lot of areas even with the guys we signed this year, we’re still young — relatively speaking. You know leadership is being able to go out and do something and let somebody see you do it, and leadership it can also be directing you off the field, on the field and everything else. There are a lot of different aspects of leadership and we’re going to try to create more than just one leader.”Kitchens said he and McCoy didn’t speak specifically about his role with the team.“He knows he’s going to be playing,” Kitchens said. “I know the more good football players you have the better you are, the better your rotation is, the better you can get after a quarterback in the two-minute drive.”
